Hair transplant surgery is one of the most sought-out cosmetic procedures because of its high rate of success, affordability, and permanent results. Hair transplant surgery allows individuals who have suffered from hair loss for years to reverse the loss – and to enjoy a full set of hair once again.
With the restored hair comes newfound confidence in how you look and feel. Although people usually seek alternatives to surgery, the minimally invasive nature of hair restoration has been determined by most clients to be an excellent investment in their appearance.
Let’s talk about three different types of hair restoration and how they work:
Types of Hair Transplant Surgery Procedures
The most common types of hair restoration surgery are FUE and FUT. Our practice at Iorio Hair Restoration utilizes an advanced method called ARTAS® Robotic Hair Restoration, which enhances the accuracy of the procedure and provides better results.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
The FUE hair transplant surgery procedure involves removing hair follicles from the “donor site” on the scalp, which is usually at the back or sides of the head. These follicular units are removed one by one, and then they are individually transplanted to the desired area on the scalp that needs hair restoration. The newly transplanted hair will begin to grow within a few months after the procedure.
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)
The FUT procedure involves removing a larger strip of skin from the donor site on the scalp – typically the back of the head – that contains a wealth of hair follicles. The strip is then dissected, and tiny groups of the follicular units are transplanted to the desired site on the scalp where hair restoration is needed.
Because FUT requires larger incisions than FUE, the healing process takes a bit longer. Like FUE, the new hair will begin to grow in a few months after the procedure.
ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration
While the FUT and FUE procedures are very popular, new technological advances in the field of hair restoration are made every day. One of the best new hair transplant technologies is the ARTAS Hair Studio application.
ARTAS allows the hair transplant surgeon to create a 3-D model of the patient’s desired results, displaying realistic expectations of what the results will be. The ARTAS robot uses artificial intelligence algorithms to identify and select the best locations from which to extract the donor follicles.
This is a great tool because it allows the surgeon to best preserve the donor area so it is impacted the least amount possible. The ARTAS system also uses its algorithm to determine the ideal new recipient locations on the scalp for transplant.
The procedure can take several hours, depending on the size of the transplant. Because the ARTAS method is minimally invasive, it involves very little discomfort, and patients heal very quickly. Patients do not have to worry about scarring, stitches, and unnecessary pain.
